Solitude

The hour is late

on a Saturday night

your chest is heavy, tightening

why does it feel like

you’re drowning?

time is pleading

‘let me heal you’

but

but

stop

need to breathe, these four walls

feel like prison

constricting

restricting

driving to your safe place

you are almost there

breathe

try again

and now

stop

it is pitch black

time.slows.down

you hold your breath

for a second of a

second

and release

a sigh escapes

walking on the grass

barefoot

the dew cooling

you down

blurry lights at a distance

people faraway

you welcome the solitude

the water beckons

you embrace it

closing your eyes

letting yourself go

‘be like water’

every where around you

is nature

at your disposal

so selfless

ignoring your presence

selfish

curling your toes

then letting go

offering yourself

to the wind

you exposed to the elements

holding on tightly

to every feeling

before letting go

of the control

the scream you’ve been holding in

now

every fibre of your being

connecting with

everything around you

this is what it means

to be free

present

in the moment

stripped of every

expectation

desire

shackles

accusations

demands

it is just you

and what is meant to

be

no one else

at the same time

the whole universe

hold on to this

‘thank you’

you smile

as you walk away

back to the grind

your steps lighter

your smile wider

at your side, solitude
