My grandmother expected me to be a lawyer

My mother expected me to be a son

My uncle expected me to be a grocery runner

My aunty expected me to be a great playmate

My father expected me to be a gynaecologist

My sister expected me to be her best friend

My friend expected me to be her mentor

My lover expected me to be forgiving

Most expected me to be passive

Others expected fire

Few expected impassivity

I accepted all these expectations

And from myself,

I expected

curiosity, imagination

seeking knowledge

non conformity

speaking my mind

a nobel prize

a written book

never going hungry

never begging for money

uncompromising when it comes to my safety

my sanity, my time

peace
